I will make sure Chiefs play their part in the fight against galamsey – Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Minister.

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Wednesday, 14th April 2021, launched the National Consultative Dialogue on Small-Scale Mining, organized by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources at the Accra International Conference Center.

The National Dialogue was under the theme: “Sustainable Small Scale Mining for National Development” .

Speaking at the forum, President Akufo-Addo noted that, the national consecus on illegal mining or galamsey is very important because one political party cannot campaign for galamsey and the other campaigning or fighting against it.

The President reassured the country to root out illegal and destructive ways of mining that destroys the environment and water bodies and hopeful that the two-day dialogue would produce a national consensus and a roadmap to ensure that mining is done in a safe and a beneficial manner for the country.

The Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Lawyer Ebenezer Kojo Kum after the launch said he would work closely with the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor to ensure that Chiefs play their part in the fight against illegal mining in the country.

Representatives from all the 16 Regional Houses of Chiefs led by the President of the National House of Chiefs, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi were at the forum.
