AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine on Friday, August 27, cut sod for the construction of Tamso-Nsuta Junction portion of the Tarkwa Takoradi road with pavement blocks to ensure its durability.
The construction of 0.5km stretch, will be constructed by Wihelm construction limited and is expected to be completed within Six (6) weeks, at the cost of about GH¢1.5 million.
At a short groundbreaking ceremony at Nsuta Junction, The managing director of Iduapriem mine, Samuel Boakye Pobee said the construction of the road will not only ease the congestion and enhance socio-economic activities but will also reduce road traffic hazards and also enhance the stimulation of the socio-economic development within the municipality.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Tarkwa, Hon. Benjamin Kessie expressed his profound gratitude to the management of Iduapriem mine for their fullest cooperation in bringing this critical project to vision.
He said the Assembly is committed to collaborate effectively with the mine and any stakeholders to bring development in the Municipality.
The Member of Parliament, Hon. George Mireku Duker also thanked the mine for the construction of the road and urged motorist and commuters to exercise patience and cooperate with the contractor during the period of construction, as the diversions and partial restrictions on road will caused them some heavy traffic, while contractor on site.
The ceremony was attended by the Tarkwa Nsuaem MCE, Hon Benjamin Kessie, Tarkwa MP, Hon. George Mireku Duker, Managing Director of Iduapriem mine, Mr Samuel Boakye Pobee, staff and management of AngloGold Iduapriem mine and stakeholders and partners.
